3rd Grade: Laurel Burch Cats

The artist Laurel Burch is well known for her bright colors, interesting patterns, and whimsical animal paintings/sculptures. 

Here is one of Laurel Burch's famous cat paintings that we looked at for inspiration.

Students focused on the use of patterns and repetition in their cats. They used watercolor paint to create these colorful masterpieces. 

Kindergarten: Texture Landscapes

Kindergarten learned all about TEXTURE for this project. We discussed the meaning of tactile texture (through touch) and all the different types of textures we could think of. Soft, smooth, rough, bumpy!

These lovely landscapes are filled with all sorts of different textures. 

Preschool: Winter Mittens

My favorite part of this fun little project was watching the preschooler's eyes light up with excitement when they see what can happens when watercolor paint and salt is combined! Like magic salt has a wonderful effect with watercolor paint and it's wonderful to watch ids see it for the first time.

Preschoolers really had to test their cutting skills in making these detailed snowflakes. 

2nd Grade: Yarn Weaving

Weaving is not any easy task which is why I was blown away by second grades accomplishment to create these Navajo inspired weavings. 

First, we took a look at the Navajo, Native Americans, an studied their art form of weaving. We also took a look at how the weaving was done by hand on a loom. We learned new vocabulary, loom, waft, and weft.

Kindergarten: About Me paintings

I love learning more about my sweet kindergarteners, and the ALL ABOUT ME project was a wonderful way to do so. 

The first part of this project began with  different types of LINES to create the sections. After painting in the sections, we moved on to adding PATTERNS, and topped it off with some silly photos and a hand print. 

8th Grade: Principles of Design

Call me an art nerd, but I love teaching about the elements of art and the principles of design! It encourages creativity as well as critical thinking. 

After learning about the art elements last year, eighth grade knocked it out of the part depicting the six principles of art. BALANCE, EMPHASIS, CONTRAST, MOVEMENT, UNITY,  and PATTERN (rhythm).

7th Grade: Elements of Art

Check out the fantastic job 7th grade did depicting the elements of art. COLOR, LINE, FORM, SPACE, VALUE, SHAPE and TEXTURE.

5th Grade: Radial Origami

These radial designs (circular) are made using vibrant paper folded into different origami patterns. We watched videos to learn three main origami folds. The hat fold, kite fold, and samari fold. Students could make their design fully out of these three, or come up with some of their own. Our goal for our origami sculptures were for them to be perfectly symmetrical. No matter which way I were to cut the picture in half, we wanted the two sides to be the exact same. 5th Grade chose there color scheme.

3rd Grade: Tibetan Prayer Flags

It's so wonderful to learn about culture from around the world and relate it back to what we believe here at St. Elizabeth. This project really brought out the compassionate side of these wonderful 3rd graders. 

It also taught students a form of sewing to add a cloth like aspect. 

Preschool: Monet Water Lillies

5th Grade: One Point Perspective Winter Wonderlands

This years One-Point Perspective turned out AWESOME. These winter wonderlands took a lot of work to capture all the small details. Great job 5th grade!
