4th Grade: Leaf Patterns
Fourth Grade took a look of examples of art that either has some type of pattern or repetition. We talked about fabric and how if you cut a square out of fabric the pattern would look as though it would continue at the line where we cut. That was our goal for these leaf patterns, to look as though they were cut from a larger piece. The pattern was to continue off the page.
First, students made a tracer for their leaf. Some made two tracers to have two types of leaves. Then they came up with some type of pattern. Some chose a radial design (circular) some went horizontal and some were diagonal across the page. The background was colored with black oil pastel and the leaves were water color painted.
