8th Grade: Low Relief Sculptures

8th grade learned about low relief sculptures. A relief sculpture means that the sculpture is mostly really view form one side, rather than a sculpture you view "in the round". A low relief means it only pops out only a little at you. An example of a low relief sculpture would be a coin.
For our low relief sculptures we used cardboard and created different landscapes. Students were required to have at least four layers. They could incorporate whatever other materials they would like.

6th Grade:Monochromatic Mandalas

A mandala is a radial design, representing life. It is often used for meditation purposes found in the Hindu or Buddhist religion. Students designed their own Mandala, using rulers and compasses to start the radial design. Monochromatic means one color. Students were also challenged to paint to mandalas using one color, mixing their own tints and shades. Students learned a tint of a color means to add white and a shade of a color means to add black.

Kindergarten: Owls

Students created their owl sculptures using model magic. We painted them with water color paints. We used a really cool technique with washable grey markers and water to create our big full moons. The background has chalk pastels and splattered white paint for the stars.
