3rd Grade: Calder Mobiles

Calder Sculpture

Alexander Calder is a sculpture who's art relies on the art of balance. You may think of them as a large, very advanced mobile. Third grade created their own Calder inspired mobiles by using a wire hanger, yarn, and foam board. The students created four symbols that describe them out of the foam boards. They then shapes a wire hanger whatever way they liked. The next stage was where the students had to figure out how to hang their shapes while keeping their hanger shape balanced. The students did an excellent job.
