Understanding the color wheel is one of the fundamentals for these students in starting their artist journey. This is where they begin to understand how to colors relate to each other and how mixing them together will turn it out in future projects. We learned two basic groups of colors, the primary colors and the secondary colors.
To make our color wheels, we collected pieces of old magazines for each of our six colors. We glued these scraps to a paper plate in the correct rainbow order (some are going counter clockwise, but rainbow order non the less). When we completed our color wheel we painted a black rim around the plate. Students used oil pastels to draw their snail designs around the shell. We added so glitter to our snail shells to add a little more excitement.
